Nativity 2 shepherds
Last week we learned that angels came to Mary and to Joseph and told them they were going to have a special baby. It took a long time for the baby to grow inside Marys tummy and then just before the baby was going to be born Mary and Joseph found out they had to go on a long journey to another town to put their names on a list. It was called a census. The Romans who were in charge wanted to have everyones names and people had to go back to the town they were born in to put their names on the list. Joseph had to go to Bethlehem. It was a long way and there were no cars or buses or trains. How do you think they got there?
Lets watch and see what happened next (watch both)

Why do you think the angels came to tell the shepherds that Jesus had been born? Shepherds were not special people. They looked after sheep. They probably had never been to school, they came from poor families. They lived out in the fields with their sheep. They were not important at all. But God decided that the very first people to hear about Jesus and to see Him would be the shepherds. Was it just one angel they saw? No, it was lots and lots of angels all singing and having a party because Jesus had been born. I wonder what it looked like. I wonder what it sounded like.
We are going to do a craft about the shepherds and then we are going to play with the sheep.
