Week 11 Esther

 Do you remember a few weeks ago we heard a story about a man who prayed to God every day even when the King said he was not allowed to? Can you remember his name? Daniel. And do you remember what happened to Daniel when he kept on praying to God? That's right, he was thrown into the lions den. Did the lions hurt him ? No! Because God kept him safe.


Daniel was very brave. He was a good man who usually did what the King asked. But when the King asked him to stop praying he knew he couldnt do that because God wanted him to pray and what God wants is always more important than what anyone else wants. Even Kings.

Today we are going to hear about a brave girl who was married to a King. She did something brave too. Her name was Esther.

Esther was one of God's people but she was married to a King who didnt know God. She lived in the palace with her uncle Mordecai and lots of other people who looked after her and the King. They had a nice life. But the King wanted everyone to bow down to him - just like the King that Daniel worked for. ( It was a different one) Mordecai, Esthers uncle, said ' I only bow down to God. I cant bow down to the King' This made the King very cross and he said ' Im going to punish you and all of your people - kill Mordecai and then send out the soldiers to kill all of his family and everyone who follows God'

When Esther heard what the King was going to do she decided to make the King his favourite dinner. When the King sat down to the dinner he was very pleased and he said to Esther ' you have done something really nice for me, tell me something nice I can do for you'. Esther said. come for a special dinner tomorrow night too. So the King did. And he was so pleased with the fancy dinner and with Esther that he said ' Please let me do something nice for you. Tell me anything you want and you can have it. I promise. Anything at all' This time Esther did ask for something. What do you think she asked for? If someone said you could have anything you wanted what would you ask for??

Esther asked the King not to kill her uncle and all of Gods people. And because the King had promised and because he loved Esther, he said he wouldnt kill anyone and God's people were saved.

Hooray!  Wasnt Esther great?

Pray -  Thank God that He is more important than Kings.  Tell him we will always try to do what He says even if that is not the easy thing.  Thank God for Esther and how she saved lots of people. Pray for our week,

Week 12 Gideon

Ask the child if Gideon was excited or scared when God called him . Point out that the army of the Midianites was very large and  strong .  Ask the child if they think a big or a small army would be better to defeat an enemy with lots of soldiers .  Point out that God told Gideon to make the army smaller so that everyone would know that God alone  gave Gideon the victory . Remind the child that God still can provide people who trust Him with the  victory .  Put out a bowl of water and tell your child to take a drink ( this is better done outside to avoid a mess ) . Depending on how your child chooses to drink , you can talk about whether or not he would have been part of Gideon's army . Week5Joseph

  Talk time: Who here has brothers? Who has sisters? Who has no brothers or sisters? Do you like your siblings? Whats the best things about them? Any downsides? If we dont have brothers and sisters we can have friends instead.  God says He will always give us people who love us and look out for us. Lets say thank you to God for our brothers and sisters and our friends. (write down the names of all siblings so we can name them all - I think nearly all our kids have at least one) Lesson: Today we are going to learn about someone in the Bible who had LOTS of brothers.
